This is a simple recipe but it may require some practice if you’ve never kneaded dough before. If you like this, be sure to check our boiled dumplings recipe too!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups White spelt flour (or all-purpose flour)

  • 3/4 Cups Spring water or nut milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon (tsp) Pink sea salt (you can add up to 1 teaspoon to salt pot)

  • 1/2 teaspoon (tsp) Baking Soda (or baking powder)

  • Grapeseed Oil (or vegetable oil) for Frying

Directions

  • In a bowl mix together spelt flour (or all-purpose flour), baking soda (or baking powder) & sea salt.
  • Add 3/4 cup water and knead for 5 minutes.
  • Let dough rest for 15 minutes.
  • Divide dough in to 8 equal parts and roll into a ball. Using the palm of your hand slightly press down the dough ball to flatten a bit.
  • In a frying pan on high heat add grapeseed oil (or vegetable oil) to fill about up to halfway up the pan. When grapeseed oil (or vegetable oil) is hot turn heat to medium high and add dumplings to fill the pan, leaving about an inch between each dumpling to allow space to flip.
  • Fry until golden brown and flip. Continue to cook until a toothpick comes out clean when poked into the golden brown dumplings.
  • Carefully remove the fried dumplings when cooked and let it cool for 3 minutes.

Serve warm and enjoy a dumpling with the rest of your meal!

This recipe makes 10 fried dumplings.

Notes

  • I use baking soda instead of baking powder because it has less detrimental ingredients, but you can use either.
